A vintage Silva 'Globetrotter' wrist compass, dating from the mid 20th century, c.1963. Made in Sweden, this type of compass was often issued to military personnel during the Vietnam war era. It is a liquid filled design, with a rotating aluminium bezel. The compass has an aluminium case and red/white needle with a luminous north marker. It is stamped 'Silva, Stockholm, Sweden', '63' and 'USA Pat. 2136970' on the rear of the case. The number '63' is believed to refer to the year of manufacture. The leather strap is extra long (30cm), intended to be worn over military or mountaineering winter clothing.
Condition:
The compass is in good condition, with general signs of age and use, and finds North well. The bezel rotates, but is quite stiff due to a small ding to one side at NW. The leather strap is in very good condition,
