The 1909 edition of this very rare Admiralty ammunition handbook. Handbook on Ammunition is a superbly illustrated handbook of the explosives, shells and small arms ammunition in use with the Royal Navy in the decade before the First World War. Subjects covered include: Gunpowder, Cordite, Lyddite, Cartridges for B.L. guns, Cartridges for Heavy Q.F. guns, Common Shells, High Explosive Shells, Shrapnel Shells, Storage, Projectiles, Fuzes, Fireworks, and small arms ammunition. The book is very well illustrated with coloured scale drawings of many shells, cartridges and fuzes, along with other diagrams and line drawings of ammunition, tools and other equipment. The description of the various types of ammunition is comprehensive and detailed, and includes details of markings, manufacture, storage and use. For anyone interested in the Naval Guns and ammunition of the Royal Navy's Dreadnoughts and other warships just before the First World War, this is an invaluable reference work.
