A Georgian Gilt pocket or fob compass, made in England, dating from c.1815. Quite small in size at 27mm diameter, with a hand-painted enamel compass card in the classic Georgian style. Although unsigned, this is a high quality compass, from one of the finest London makers. It has a Gilt brass case, English bar needle and jewelled pivot. There is a fully functional transit lock operated by a tiny lever behind the bow. The compass is in full working order.
Condition:
In good condition, and full working order. The compass finds North very well. With some signs of wear to the gilt finish of the case, and some surface scratches to the glass.
